Pamela Hastings

Port Angeles, Washington

“One of my earliest memories is saving to buy a gigantic box of crayons, then sleeping with it under my pillow. I was five and spent hours filling marbleized composition books with stories about princesses. My mother and grandmother taught me to sew when I was too young to start school with my friends, and by high school I was making and selling Edith Flack Ackley-inspired dolls. I designed costumes for the community theater and was never without a project in a shoe box on family outings, as we waited for Dad to take the perfect railroad photo.

I’ve kept a journal since I was 22, published three books, drawn, painted, created soft sculptures, masks, shrines and fabric jewelry, collages and other alternative realities.”

Hastings was educated at Tuft University in Massachusetts. Her work has been exhibited throughout the country and she teaches, writes and gives periodic workshops.
