Diane Ainsworth
Port Townsend, Washington
Ainsworth’s subjects are as varied as her many interests. Not rendering an architectural like canvas, her ethic remains with the harmonious presentation of light and color. Her barn studio bristles with activity. Painting in plein aire whenever possible, she searches for that elusive feeling of spontaneity.
“Standing knee deep in grass with the sun’s time element you have to hurry to catch the light and color.”
Majored in fine art at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa. Ainsworth continued studying at the Baum Art School in Pennsylvania. Originally a watercolorist, she began to favor oils after painting in Taos, New Mexico. In Oklahoma, she was one of the founders of the Oklahoma Society of Impressionists. She moved to Taos where she won awards and taught workshops herself. After visiting the Pacific Northwest, Ainsworth found she was fascinated by the abstract designs made by boats and their reflections in the harbors. Since moving to Port Townsend, Washington, Ainsworth pursues the challenge of capturing her surroundings and has become aware of a shift in her work toward expressionism. She shows in several galleries from coast to coast and teaches workshops.
